『めくれた家-The Pleeled House-』

存在しないと信じられてきたものが、ある瞬間から確かな存在へとすり替わることがある。
幽霊や噂話のように、一度知ってしまうと頭から離れず、見なかったことには戻れなくなる。目の端に残る影のように、それは執拗に私たちの内側に滞留し続ける。

本展は、前川光平の生活の痕跡や物が外部へと露出した「家」と、卯月梨沙の記憶や経験の奥に沈んでいたものが内部から滲み出す「家」から構成される。
どちらも生活の只中にありながら、説明できない重さや気配を帯びるそれらは、日常から隠され、あるいは抑圧されたものの表出でもある。
一度めくれてしまった外殻は元の場所へ戻ることはなく、見る者の内側に不可逆的な痕跡として残り続けるだろう。

Things that have long been believed not to exist can, at a certain moment, shift into something undeniably real.
Like ghosts or rumors, once we become aware of them, they linger in our minds, making it impossible to return to a state of not having seen. Like a shadow caught at the edge of our vision, they persistently remain within us.

This exhibition brings together two visions of the “house”: Kohei Maekawa’s, where traces of everyday life and objects are exposed to the outside, and Risa Uzuki’s, where things long submerged in the depths of memory and experience seep outward from within.
Though both are rooted in the midst of everyday life, they carry an inexplicable weight and presence. They are also manifestations of things hidden from daily life, or held in repression.

Once its outer shell has been peeled back, it can never return to its original place.
What has been exposed will remain within the viewer as an irreversible trace.

『THE PEELED HOUSE』

We are pleased to announce our two-person exhibition, "The Peeled House," at Gola Gallery in Milan, Italy.

This exhibition presents photographs by two emerging Japanese photographers, Kohei Maekawa and Risa Uzuki.
Although their approaches differ, both examine traces of human presence embedded in the space of the home.

Kohei Maekawa photographs unusual houses and front yards he encountered while working as a pizza delivery driver and taxi driver in suburban Japan. Shot at night with flash, these photographs contain no people, yet worn household items and fragments of handwritten words reveal the presence of those who live there and a lingering sense of attachment accumulated over time.

Risa Uzuki creates images that blur the boundary between reality and fiction, drawing on her own memories and sensations. This exhibition features works set in the house where she grew up, exploring family memories and old local customs rooted in that place.

While Maekawa looks at traces visible on the outside of the house, Uzuki excavates memories and sensations that have settled within it.

The title, "The Peeled House," suggests a house whose surface has been peeled back, exposing what has long remained hidden beneath.
